About the Free Shell Rewards Program: The Fuel Rewards Network (FRN) is a pretty amazing program that will save you lots of money on gas for FREE!  Here are some key points about the new Fuel Rewards Network (FRN). See the Fuel Rewards Video.

  • It empowers consumers to lower their fuel prices significantly with everyday purchases. Never pay full price at the pump again!
  • It offers multiple ways to earn rewards through everyday purchases of things like food, clothing and household goods which can be redeemed for fuel savings at participating Shell stations.
  • There are multiple ways for consumers to save with the Fuel Rewards Network program, including:

o   Online Mall – Access nearly 700 brand name online merchants offering 5 cents per gallon for every $50 you spend. Some merchants may offer 2x, 5x, 10x rewards or more – so you can multiply your savings!

o   Dining – Earn 10 cents per gallon for every $50 you spend when you dine at more than 10,000 participating restaurant locations nationwide.

o   Shell Fuel Rewards purchases – Watch for & purchase specially marked products inside the convenience store, car washes and auto services at participating Shell stations to earn Fuel Rewards savings.

o   eCoupons – Digital coupons available for select retailers in select markets provide additional cents-per-gallon savings when the digital coupon is selected at fuelrewards.com and the item is subsequently purchased at a participating retailer.

o   Grocery and Other Programs – Buy the everyday things you need and earn Fuel Rewards savings from participating FRN grocery stores and retailers. Link your participating grocer or other retailer loyalty card to your FRN Account to combine your rewards for even more savings at the pump at Shell in select markets.

The program is unique because it allows consumers to combine or stack multiple rewards offers – or cents-per-gallon discounts – together for potentially huge savings right at the pump.  Imagine taking as much as one, two, three dollars or more off per gallon on your next fuel purchase!

It is FREE – just pick up a Fuel Rewards Network Card at a participating Shell station, then activate it at fuelrewards.com , or via the Fuel Rewards Network iPhone or Android Apps to start earning rewards to save at the pump. Consumers can also request a Fuel Rewards Network Card online at fuelrewards.com.  Track your fuel savings by visiting fuelrewards.com

How to earn rewards: Consumers can earn 5 cents per gallon in rewards for every $50 spent through the online mall – and or more depending on the retailer.  Consumers can also link a regular payment card to their FRN card to rewards register.  When that payment card is used at participating local restaurants or stores,  rewards will automatically be earned:

  • Buy your child’s next pair of gym sneakers online for $50 at NikeShop.com, and earn a 15 cents per gallon savings
  • Purchase back to school clothes online at GapKids.com and Kohls.com and earn a 15 cents per gallon savings
  • Take your family out for dinner at the Macaroni Grill and spend $50, and you’ll earn 10 cents per gallon

That would be a savings of 40 cents per gallon – without doing anything different from your daily routine.

Thank you to Shell for providing this giveaway.  TipResource did receive a FRN card for review.  But it has not influenced my opinions of the Fuel Network program.

*See full article about 2012 most expensive gas prices in history.

**If you are one of the four winners, when you receive your $50 in gas savings card from Shell Fuel Rewards:
1. Activate the card
2. Stop by a Shell station participating in the Shell Fuel Rewards program.
3. Fill up and get $2.50 off per gallon of gas (up to 20 gallons = $50 off!). One time fill up only.
4. And you can continue to earn more money off per gallon of gas using the FREE Fuel Rewards Network Program, if you’d like.  See the Fuel Rewards video explaining the program.

Gas prices have definitely hit our family. With my husband driving 20 miles each way to work and having to fill up every week. I really try to have several errands lined up to make my trips out worth while. We use the Kroger rewards to get at least 15 cents off per gallon. But, 2.50 off would be wonderful.
Thanks!

I continue to see an increase in gas anywhere from 5 to 40 cents difference between a 200 mile radius. We still travel and attend important events but cut in other areas of finances

Gas went up here in Perry, OK from $3.67 to $3.87 in the last week – I commute 80 miles per day, so I just cut back on my cable bill to a basic package to make up what I’m paying extra in gas and I’m also eating out less.

Yes in my city gas prices have sky rocketed within the last couple weeks by $.17 cents a gallon. It is very hard financially to even get around with these high prices of gas not only to and from work but even to the local grocery stores. We have limited ourselves to only go out when absolutely necessary. We have also chosen to stay home on vacations because we simply can’t afford to travel with the way gas prices are increasing on a daily basis.

Gas prices keep rising and rising. I am grateful for couponing as it definitely helps my family save money in other areas (groceries, dining, entertainment), which helps supplement increased gas prices. I left a comment on facebook too.

I give up trying to figure out the reason for gas prices. I am frugal in my driving around but my son, who now drives gets hit the hardest. He is now very familiar with the cheapest gas stations in the area. Try being 17, driving to work for $8 an hour and paying $4 just to get there.

Reply

Yes, I have definitely noticed that gas prices are rising! They seemed to be going down, but have steadily climbed back up. The changes our family has made to reduce gas usage is trying to plan trips to the store all in one run (grocery store once a week, getting errands done at one time). We also have been staying in town more (not visiting family in other cities). Thank you so much for the giveaway!!! Who doesn’t love free gas?! :)

Gas has gone up alot here if California. With both parents working and taking kids to the babysitter in the morning and picking them up, 2 boys in soccer with 2 practices each a week and games every Saturday at 2 different locations it has been hard keeping the tank even 1/4 full at a time. One change we have made is that my husband carpools to work with his co-workers and on those weeks that he doesn’t drive I get to leave the gas hog at home and take the smaller car which is much better on gas.

Gas has affected us and we bought a diesel Jetta last year it gets on average 42 mpg, it really has helped our gas budget!!!

Reply

Kelly September 17, 2012 at 3:44 pm

We have been feeling the higher gas prices. My husband works 25 miles from our home and said that he would start riding his bike to work when gas hit $4/gallon. Mind you, he was a professional cyclist years ago, but it has been helping a little bit. The high gas prices still affect us though.

Reply

Debbie Valenzona September 17, 2012 at 5:03 pm

Definitely have changed things due to high prices. My 2 teens and I ride our bikes and use our bike baskets to get groceries and items bought home. We are lucky enough to have nice trails to get to our shopping locations. In addition, you get a workout at the same time. We take the dog too!

As a college student, I try to watch gas prices as much as I can. One day it’ll be one price, and the next day it’ll be 10 cents more expensive. I try the best I can to watch how much I travel with a vehicle. Although I don’t have to travel very far because I live on campus, I try to come home at least once a month. It’s always nice to see the family (they live about 1.5 hours away). I’d love a discount on gas!

We keep looking at all fuel stations to see which is offering the cheapest. We try every way to bring down the price per gallon by 10 cents, but in vain :-)

It has been difficult to see the gas price go up almost every day! We try to minimize the number of shopping trips by trying to make a list of all items needed before we go out :-)

Our family has decided no more sponteous trips because of the increase in gas prices. We plan out our trip to use as little gas as possible. My honey is now in agreement with my honey-do list more than ever, now that we are home more. He finally sees the leaking faucet, sprinkler needing adjusting and BBQing is fun with the right marinate.

The prices just keep going up and up. We try to do trips all together rather than little ones. We have tried to carpool but it’s hard becasue people have busy lives also. With three kids at three different school, it’s hard to save on gas at all. This would really help. thank you

Yes, our family has noticed a BIG increase in gas prices. When our son was born in 2010, I noted in his baby book that the average price of gas was $3 per gallon. Since that time gas has remained between $3.75-$4.15 here in CA. To save money, my husband and I have reduced our speed on the highway from around 70 mph to 60. Just by doing this we have been getting an extra 3 mpg. That equals and extra 45 miles per tank of gas (about a 1.5 gallons in our car) 1.5 gallons x $4 per gallon = $6 saving per fill up which is about $24 per month or $300 per year. Little changes can really add up:)

With gas prices jumping we really plan our shopping trips/errands so that we go to largest number of stores within a certain vicinity. We’ve also figured how much it costs to drive the car (not just gas, but approx cost of wear & tear to car) which can determine whether the coupon savings are worth the cost of the drive.

Reply

Lauren September 18, 2012 at 10:26 pm

We work out an errand route before leaving the house so that our use of the car is most efficient.

I have a family of 7 and a minivan and stretching every penny is our daily goal! Especially with gas prices..when I was in highschool a gallon was half of what it is now. We save on gas with a smiths card shell fuel reward & also try to use it to earn upromise dollars for college savings ..Gas prices have gotten so inflated that I can’t get excited with 10 cents off gas from my rewards anymore cause it just comes down to the price I paid the previous week! I usually wait til I accumulate 30 cents to 50 cents off..then I can get excited..it takes a while but I just love seeing a price drop knowing shopping can pay off!

Here in Elk Grove, gas prices have gone up. My husband has been needing to make trips from here to Modesto (appx. 1.5 hrs south of us) to visit a boyhood friend with cancer. His friend is on assitance & not eating well and we await the doctor’s ok to purchase him liquid nutrition like Boost etc… (which we hope to coupon for). These will then need to be transported down to him. A gas card would sure be a blessing to help out with this. We consider ourselves blessed to even have a car to put gas in right now, as many do not. Thanks for teaching us about FRN, we knew nothing about it! Keep up the great work and yes, thanks to Shell as well. Posting on FB as well.

I do notice that there are increases to gas price. Different gas stations offer different pump rate. Gas is cheaper if you pay by cash rather than credit. To save money, i drive less and use public transportation if possible. When i do get gas i wait till we go somewhere else from New York such as New Jersey. Gas is cheaper there. We used cash as often as possible to save about $.10 a gallon.

Gas prices why are they so high? We have definately been affected by the prices. My husband drives a motorcycle to work most days and when it rains he rides the bus (that takes him nearly 3 hours round trip because our public transportation in LA is horrible). I try to walk most places and ride the bike as much as possible but once my lo started potty training it is a little hard to carry her potty with us everywhere. So I just try to limit our activities. Saving money on gas would be amazing and to get rewards for filling your tank is an added bonus. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to enter for a gas card and thank you so much for all of your frugal tips! You have saved our family so much already! :)
