Slim Down Summer
This is embarrassing and how did it get this bad? That is what started going through my head every time I opened a certain cabinet in my kitchen. The picture below is my container storage cabinet. It seems I clean it out constantly and am always wondering “how did it get so out of order again?” Today, I am showing you pictures of my embarrassingly messy cabinet and the one I have procrastinated cleaning out for the last 6 weeks.
But by September I want to easily find things again and dig out of all the things big and small that seem to be weighing me down. That’s why I started the Slim Down Summer challenge. I want to start the Fall on track.
Since this cabinet is the one I have avoided, today I made it a priority. It took me all of about 15 minutes to open it up, take everything out, wipe the inside out and reorganize. So, what took me SO long to do it? And seriously I have spent more mental energy opening the cabinet for months thinking “I really need to do something about that mess” – it was not worth the mental energy!
These are all the things going into my box of “stuff to discard” Either donate, sell it or throw it out. I was surprised to find a plastic yogurt container washed and in my cabinet, since I have no memory of doing it or a clue as to why I would have kept it, it’s a safe bet to throw it away. I matched all my lids and containers, water bottle pieces. Many containers with no lids and lids with no containers.
The end result was a lot of extra room and I can find the containers I need. There is a group of lids on the top shelf because I tend to grab a container and use it for random purposes around the house. During my Slim Down Summer projects, I hope to run across those rouge containers and put them back to proper use*. Then I will discard all the extra lids with no mate.
What I learned.
~ Tackling a job on the spot is WAY better than thinking about it for months.
~ My juicer didn’t get thrown out by accident, instead it was sitting on the shelf behind a bunch of things!
~Never will I buy another Zip Loc Disposable container. The frugal in me washes and reuses them!
~*My darling daughter likes to take my small containers and lids to use as cat dishes, tiny swimming pools for her LPS toys and smiles sheepishly when she returns them while I was cleaning out the cabinet.
