What to buy after Halloween

Halloween Clearance!

Heads Up!!  Look for Halloween clearance sections in all the stores.  Items to consider buying now and huge discounts to use for later.  Think about upcoming birthdays, baby showers, weddings, New Years parties, retirement parties and more.  Buy solid colored items or things that can double as something else!

Candies for baking: Hershey’s Kisses, Reese’s & other candies unwrapped they are the same as any other!  Use for upcoming holiday baking.

Colored poster board,  paper or streamers:  Black, Orange, Brown etc — find solid colors that can be used for other occasions. Black is great to use for New Year’s Eve parties or a 50th birthday party.

More uses for Halloween Costumes:   They make fun play outfits for the kids “dress up” box.   Is there an upcoming theatrical production or play?  Do your kids want to do their own production at home? Now is the time to find some costumes and help them  create a fun event.  And of course, pick a costume now for next year at a massive discount!

Halloween Crafts:  Buy now and put up for next years projects.  Look for craft items that are plain colors and can be used  the year.  Think about summer vacations time and buy items to occupy the kids with crafts.  Do you help with Summer camps or  mom’s group and need a quick project.  Time to look for them.  Sequence, pipe cleaners, etc.

Need plastic pumpkins for You’ve Been Booed treats next year?  Buy now!

Halloween Face paints & cool stick on masks:  Remember there are birthdays coming and face-painting is always  a hit!  Look for long eyelashes, cat faces, butterfly faces, unicorns, fairies, etc.  Stock up now on hair paints too.  Put in the freezer to preserve.

Buy your schools colors if you dress-up for pep rally’s or your football games.

halloween ice cubes

Halloween is a holiday that we make fun, none of the scary things go on in our house. We like the light-hearted side that Halloween can have.  Here are 2 fun things we do around our house over Halloween.  Hope you enjoy our Halloween traditions.

Severed-Glow In The Dark Ice Hands
~Add to your Fright-Night Halloween Punch – the kids get a big kick out of this.

To make Glow In The Dark Ice Hands, use Tonic Water!  The luminescence comes from the quinine in the tonic water, which naturally glows blue when exposed to UV light. So make sure you have a black light!

Ingredients:
2 medium or large powder-free latex gloves
3 cups flat tonic water
2 rubber bands

To flatten the tonic water, just pour in a dish and swish around several times until the effervescence bubbling stops.

Fill each glove with about 1 1/2 cups of the flat tonic water.  Squeeze out as much air as possible and close the opening of the glove tightly with a rubber band.  Lay the glove flat on the baking sheet line with wax paper and repeat with the second glove.  Place in the freezer until solid, at least overnight.  Add to your favorite punch!

Get Boo-ed ~ It is really fun!

This is our neighborhood Halloween tradition, maybe you can start it in your neighborhood.

It is a simple thing.  Print a “You’ve Been Boo-ed” note, make 2 candy & treat filled plastic pumpkins and place a “You’ve Been Boo-ed” note inside of each one.   Let the kids take a pumpkin to the neighbors house, place one filled pumpkin on their doorstep, ring the doorbell and RUN!!!  Now, find a second neighbor and repeat!  Oh, my the twins go crazy over this!!! My Vegas neighborhood wouldn’t be the same with out this tradition!

The object is for the “Boo-ed” neighbor to make 3 copies of the “you’ve Been Boo-ed” note, placing one on their front door and using the other 2 for their candy & treat filled pumpkins they will take to neighbors who don’t have a “You’ve Been Boo-ed” note on the door yet.

But Start this right away so it has time to go around your neighborhood!  Want an “office” version of the “You’ve Been Booed” note? There is one for that too!

No Carve Pumpkin Decoration

Halloween No Carve Pumpkin Decoration

I dread the idea of carving a pumpkin at Halloween.  It’s messy and they never turn out how I want.   I found a new way to decorate a pumpkin easily!  No carve pumpkin decorations is WAY easier than trying to carve a real pumpkin.  I found this in a magazine from years ago and it has been such an easy, no-fuss and fun way to decorate pumpkins.

No-Carve Pumpkin Decorations!

Gather these supplies

  • newspaper
  • black spray paint (optional)
  • real pumpkin or get a fake one from the craft store
  • package of adhesive googly eyes in assorted sizes
  • craft glue or colored glue

In a ventilated area, cover floor with newspaper.  Spray-paint pumpkin black and let it dry.

Put the googly eyes all over pumpkin. Use glue to secure eyes if adhesive doesn’t hold.

Spider Web Pumpkin

Get Colored Glue and make a spider web on the pumpkin! See these web stencils.

Scarey Pumpkin

Pick up spider stickers or other creepy stickers and decorate the pumpkin.   Or use a stencil of a spider and spray-paint a spider on the pumpkin.
